This should send a chill down every father. Family courts, judges, barristers, and mothers cannot be trusted. This legislation will be used to discriminate further against fathers, to demonise them and to deprive children of access to them. With every additional restriction on the cross examination of witnesses comes the undermining of justice. Only the wealthiest will be able to appoint barristers to defend them and the poor will be prevented from defending themselves. Instead of using the tragedy of children being killed to justify the erosion of justice and the undermining of equal parenting, it should trigger a realisation that vindictive women, riding on the bias of courts towards mothers, and using their children as weapons in divorce wars, can be an integral part of what precipitates such catastrophes. The courts should stop intruding bias in divorce and custody proceedings. They should only intervene to make sure the children are able to maintain equal quality access to both parents. These proposed developments will only cause more heartbreak for children and more disruption within families.
