IN MEMORY OF LIDIA DRAGESCUE

Love alone to this heartbroken family. For Lidia to choose to pass to heaven in this setting and manner implies that it was premeditated and perhaps didactic. She did not choose a discreet death, but one that would have maximum impact. As Jesus died, Matthew's Gospel records that  "..the veil of the temple was torn in two, from the top to the bottom." Lidia's death rent the 'sanctity' of St Paul's Cathedral apart. She traumatised all who witnessed her death, riveted an international audience and left an indelible historical mark upon the cold, oft trodden floor.  Did she intend to bring her sense of the world's agony into a place that promised healing? Did she want to take the suffering of the world upon herself - a sister for Jesus? Did she hope that the rending of St Paul's 'curtain' would symbolise the mandate given all holy places, not to hive their 'holiness' away, but release it to help the earth? May her resurrection be our renewed commitment to the common good. May her family be embraced with love from all around them.
