RESIDENTS ADVISED TO DIE IN GRENFELL TOWER

Escaping residents were told to return to their flats as they would be safer in them than following the emergency exits. There are times when our survival depends upon split second decisions about whether to follow the 'official advice'. Those who ignored it, survived.
We always need to keep our wits about us and realise that sometimes we know better.
The warnings by residents to the authorities that the tower block was a death trap were ignored. Millions were spent giving it a face lift on the outside and adding new units, making it even more congested, but it seems, inadequate attention was paid to basic fire safety.
